The 3rd grade in Grunnskólinn í Sandgerdi had the assignment to preform two songs that would our contribution to the Comeniusar projvect Learning From The Past...
Looking To The Future. This was a cooperation between the class teacher and the music teacher. The class began with few song that the teachers had found. The students voted for each song. The outcome where the traditional folk song Hani, krummi, hundur svín and another newly very popular song Stingum af from the composer/singer Mugison. We took about three weeks of practicing the songs both. The idea of drawing pictures to explain the word that we sang came soon. The students where concern that our friends in the other countries could understand us. We wrote on the board the words that we thought would be good to draw and then we began – the student had free hand in how they would draw the words – but had sometimes a little help from a fellow student or a teacher. This was a great opportunity for working with vocabulary both in Icelandic and English. The song in the beginning of the video is by Klassart – an Icelandic band with members from Sandgerdi. The song is about their old town. The scenery is around town. Both the students and the teachers where happy with the result. http://pastfuturedays.weebly.com/song.html We had help from Hlynur Þór Valssson making the video – thank you Hlynur. Erla B.
